Exceptional 2008 Cruise Season Ahead for the Port of HalifaxFebruary 12, 2008Halifax, NS – The Port of Halifax will begin a record cruise season this spring with 134 cruise ships scheduled this year. The season will run from April 14th to November 9th and is expected to bring between 215,000 – 220,000 cruise passengers to the city. “2008 is an exceptional year, with 40,000 extra cruise passengers visiting our region aboard cruise ships calling the Port of Halifax. The efforts of the whole cruise and tourism industry have created a demand for cruises in the Atlantic region” said Cathy McGrail, Manager, Cruise Development, Halifax Port Authority. Homeporting, where a cruise ship begins or ends their itinerary in Halifax is gaining momentum. 14 homeporting calls are scheduled for Halifax through Pearl Seas Cruises, Hapag-Lloyd, Canadian Sailings Expeditions and Polar Star Expeditions.
