March 02, 2007
Halifax, NS - Costa Container Lines (CCL) and Europe West Indies Lines (EWL), both niche market carriers, are pleased to announce the addition of new vessels to increase their services through the Port of Halifax.
CCL is adding its fifth vessel to its Canada-Cuba-Mexico (CCM) service. The Cala Pantera, a 1,600 TEU vessel, will make its first call on March 7, 2007.
The Genoa-based shipping Line will now increase its frequency from 11 days to every nine days. CCL's business is handled at the South End Terminal operated by the Halterm Container Terminal Ltd.
CCL is part of the C.F. Group based in Italy. The C.F. Group operates 27 vessels and is a well established Italian shipping company, engaged in the containerized and reefer liner trades to and from the Mediterranean.
EWL also announced it would be adding its 7th vessel to its mainliner service through Halifax. EWL recently started weekly service to Halifax in late January. This additional vessel will ensure enhanced reliability of this service.
Along with this vessel addition, EWL is adding direct calls to ports in Barbados and the Dominican Republic, which in the past were served by feeder or slot charter agreements.
The EWL Central America will make its first call to Halifax on March 9, 2007.
EWL was founded in 1985 and is a part of Wethold International B.V., which is a holding company of a group of subsidiary companies that are engaged in the shipping and transport industry. EWL operates 7 vessels with 1000 TEU capacity.
