Atlantic Provinces Economic Council's (APEC) 2009 Major Projects Inventory

The 26th edition of APEC's Major Projects Inventory was released on June 15, 2009 in conjunction with the latest issue of Atlantic Report. The Inventory is a comprehensive list of the 329 largest investment projects planned or underway in Atlantic Canada. The total value of these projects is $86 billion, a 13% rise over last year's Inventory. There are numerous Atlantic region port-related infrastructure projects referenced in the report. The report notes that the recession is affecting Atlantic Canada with most economic indicators for early 2009 weaker than in 2008. "Since the employment peak in October 2008, employment in the region has fallen by 1.4%... Housing starts fell 23% in the first quarter (but by 46% in Canada)... Export revenues fell by only 1.3% regionally, compared with a 15% drop nationally, led by a collapse in motor vehicle exports."

APEC members can access the full report on APEC's website at no charge; non-members: $110
